Hallo,
Frage: Ist das bekannt?
Die "HTML"-Datei:
christian@cobalt ~ $ cat tmp/iecrash.html
<object data="test2.txt" type="text/plain" width="600" height="480"></object>
Die Testdatei:
christian@cobalt ~ $ hexdump -C tmp/test2.txt

(Also UTF-16 Little Endian)
Geht bei mir sowohl im Firefox 1.5.0.3 als auch im IE 6.0.2800.1106 (beides Gentoo Linux, Wine Version 0.9.11). Dein Problem muss an etwas anderem liegen.
Viele Grüße,
Christian
