preg_match Problem

hallo, ich will gern das hier probben:

$myString = "<-<table border=1 width=300>
<tr>
<td>test</td>
</tr>
</table>->";

preg_match ("/<-(.*)->/", $myString , $matches);
echo $matches[1];
?>

nur leider funst das net, kann mir jemand sagen, wo der fehler ist!!
